In 2011, a group of our Worden Senior Citizens mentioned the need for a place for seniors to gather and socialize...
In 2011, a group of our Worden Senior Citizens mentioned the need for a place for seniors to gather and socialize with the possibility to expand into affordable housing in the future. Jean Ott, retired school-teacher, had just joined the Worden Seniors. She took it upon herself to get the ball rolling. By inviting approximately 16 seniors to her home, feeding them dinner (including strawberry shortcake for dessert) the original planning committee was formed. Funds were raised by holding garage sales, bake sales etc.
On her own, Jean visited many communities to look at their senior housing. She so believed in the project that when she passed in 2017, she bequeathed approximately $13,000 to the project.
The project was revisited by members at the Worden Senior Citizens meeting in August 2022. Announced on Facebook, the first meeting was held in September 2022, and the new Huntley Project Community Complex Planning Committee was formed.
This committee includes a diverse group of people; a contractor, a PA, an architect, the senior meal site coordinator, a retired executive assistant, a retired farmer and our senior member, the President of the Worden Senior Citizens group. The committee is also supported by other individuals who include a healthcare EA, an attorney & a grants writer; we continue to reach out to professionals as we gather momentum.
